Workshop – June 7, 2011

Songsalive! Australia has been launched and we had our first workshop under that banner this month. Our venue, Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL, is undergoing renovations, so we had to set up camp in the auditorium.

Helping us christen our inaugural Songsalive! Australia workshop was our special guest speaker Robert Case, a regular visitor from the States and a good friend of the team. Robert started the workshop with an informative and entertaining PowerPoint presentation, providing advice and insight on income streams and music opportunities in the industry. Robert then led the critiquing for the many and varied songs that were presented on the night.
It was a large turnout with a mixture of newcomers and regulars.

Members are excited about the new Songsalive! Australia identity and we're inviting ideas and input to help make this organisation relevant, helpful and fun for Australian songwriters.

On the agenda is the upcoming songwriting competition, The Song Comp, which hopefully will get underway in 2012.

There was a great turnout, a few old friends and some new faces.

Critiques were intense and we’re looking forward to a lot of new songs next month.

WORKSHOPS

One of the best things you can do for your song, especially if you're almost finished, or have just recently finished it, is to bring it to a workshop.
Having your song listened to, and critiqued by fellow songwriters, often shows up elements which may need addressing, or extending. Sometimes, new ideas flow from the creative reactions to the song, and you find it benefits greatrly from having been given a hearing before finally committing it to recording.
